How To Sell On eBay

Written by Value Vera on May 23rd, 2010 | Filed under: Sell on eBay, Top Tips

Ever sold anything on eBay? The average Irish household has approx €2,200 worth of unused items that could be sold on EBay, according to AC Neilson. Selling on eBay is easy and is a good way of generating a bit of extra cash for a weekend away or to go towards a holiday.

First of all go to  www.ebay.ie, You will need to register an account and to do this you need a credit card or paypal account. The link for registering is on the homepage beside the eBay sign. Then click Sell on the top right hand corner of the homepage and follow the steps below..

1. Choose how you want to sell. The basic choice is between a fixed-price sale or an on-line auction. Or you can offer both options.

2. Select the category you want your item to appear in. There is a countless choice of categories, but all are represented in a simple drop down menu.

3. Write your listing’s title and description. Like any ad you might write, keep it clear, concise and factual (avoid overuse of adjectives, it dilutes the content).

4. Add images. You can then add some pictures to your listing and choose “promotional enhancements” such as bold text, a second category to appear in or special listing status.

5. Price and postage. The other details to add at this stage are the financial. What’s the auction starting price, and reserve price? How would you like to be paid? And how much do you want for postage?

6. Review and submit. Take a moment to review the whole listing before clicking the ‘Submit’ button. Then you’re done. Within a few hours the world will be able to see your auction and start bidding!!

How Much Does It Cost?

You have to pay an insertion fee, but it’s pretty low, around 20c for an item with a starting price of up to €100 (this is a rough guide). If the item doesn’t sell, you have nothing more to pay. If it does sell, then eBay will take up to 10% of the final sales price in commission, what is called a Final Value Fee.

Good luck, let me know if you have any questions. Also if you have any successes (or failures!), please leave a comment.
