5 Things You should Never Pay Full Price For
There are some things that you should never pay full price for. Really? How? Set yourself rules for these 5 areas and if you keep focused you will spot the bargains, stock up and never pay full price again.
1. Beauty Treatments
How?
If you register on all the group deal sites you will get up to 70% off facials, manicures and waxing etc. I know you probably have your favourite place, but is it really worth paying €50+ more for?
What do you do?
Register on the sites below and then the deals come into your inbox every day. You have a limited length of time to buy the deal (usually 2-5 days). Providing the minium number of people required have purchased the deal, when the deal expires, you get a voucher into your inbox, which you can redeem in the restaurant/salon/hotel etc.
Note that the voucher has an expiry date (usually 3-6 months, but make sure you double check)
My suggestion would be to register on all the deal sites, that way you have more choice.
The group discount sites:
www.citydeal.ie
If you recommend a friend who then takes the deal, you get credited €6 to your account to put towards your next voucher.
www.pigsback.com
It’s called the Mega deal and if you refer a friend you get 500 piggy points- which you can cash in for vouchers etc on www.Pigsback.com (5,000 point entitles you to £35 to spend on Amazon.co.uk)
www.boardsdeals.ie
Boards deals has some really good deals too. They don’t have a referral system but they tell me they have something up their sleeve.
www.livingsocial.ie
This site was only launched last week in Ireland but is very big in the states . If you buy the deal and a 3 of your friends (whom you refer) also buy the deal, you get it for free!

2. Toiletries & Cleaning Products
Items like deodorant , shower gel, washing powder, cleaning spray are always on special offer. There are always 2 for 1 or half price offers, you just need to keep an eye out for them. I always update the supermarket section on http://www.valueseekers.ie/category/deal-categories/groceries/ . Check it every week before you shop and see what’s on offer and when they’re on offer, buy in bulk. Brands that are often on special offer are; Dove, Sure, L’Oreal, Cilit Bang, Cif, Daz and Finish Dishwashing Tablets.
Top tip: I have noticed that when an item (or product range) is on special offer in Tesco one week, Dunnes or Superquinn will offer a similar deal the following week. (It stands to reason that the supermarkets will be bargaining with their suppliers for the same deals the other supermarkets got!)
3. Cinema
Ok well the cinema from Monday-Thursday. I use my O2 treats and get to go to the cinema for €4!
If you’re an O2 customer, you can register online at www.o2.ie and then go into the Treats section to view all the discount codes and special offers available to you. You then go to the treat you want and get the discount code sent to you by SMS (you just press the option) and then you simply show to the retailer to avail of the discount. There are discount codes for the cinema, 2 for 1 meals, beauty deals, family days out and fashion (there is currently 10% off at Awear). If you have an iphone you can download the app and get the discounts on the go.
Sneaky tip: I have an iphone app and used my cinema code on my iphone and then went online and got the code texted to my phone and then sent the code to my mate for them to use- sneaky but it works!
4. Meat
Again I look for the supermarket bargains, stock up and freeze the meat and use it as I wish (local butchers are also offering very good deals at the moment, so it’s work checking them out and it’s good to support local businesses too!).
If you live in Dublin, it might be worth a visit to Meath Street. The butchers there have great deals- I picked up 6 chicken fillets for €5 the other day (and they were a generous size too- not like some of the supermarket deals!) They also have some good deals on roast joints, so it’s well worth checking out.
At the moment Dunnes have good deals in their meat department- mix and match any 2 for €6 (including a whole chicken) – Click here It would be worth a trip there to stock up.
5. Frozen Food
There are always 2 for 1 and half price deals on frozen food- so why pay full price? In general, supermarkets tend to have a special offers in one particular section one week – so one week it might be fruit and veg (in the hope that you come for the fruit and veg and buy other stuff) and the next week it might be toiletries or frozen food. You just need to keep an eye out. Have a look at the Supermarket section on my site-click here I’ll always cover the ‘buy one get one free’ and ‘half price’ offers. If there are lots of offers in a particular supermarket one week (which there often is), it might be worth the journey to stock up.
If you don’t have the time to be running around lots of supermarkets to get the deals that’s fair enough- just know the prices so you know when you’re getting a good deal (a special offer on one brand might be normal price on another) and then stock up!
Do you have anything you don’t pay full price for? If so post a comment and share the wealth! – Value Vera
