Call & Data Roaming Charges Cost Comparison
I think we’ve all experienced bill shock at some stage after coming back from holiday. Last May I was in Barcelona for 5 days and I got a bill for over €60 for data roaming charges alone! This is when I decided to look at other options to reduce my roaming charges. I am on a contract with O2 so I thought there was little I could do about the charges until I came across Maxroam. Maxroam is a universal sim card that fits into any mobile (bill, pay as you go and ipad) -you can also use your own number and top up online. If you’re pay as you go, you have more options and Meteor looks the most attractive option at the moment. See below the cost comparison for mobile and data roaming for Europe.

*To avail of the no data roaming charges with Meteor customers are required to sign up for the service. For more information go to http://www.meteor.ie/do_more/roaming/
** These rates apply to all Simply and new bill pay customers, and to existing consumer bill pay customers once they renew their contract following an upgrade or recommitment.
*** Max Roam Sim Cards work from any phone, any network, billpay or prepay.
You can order the sim card online at www.maxroam.com -
1. sim plus €10 for €15
2. sim plus €30 for €30
3. sim plus €55 for €50
(you can then top up online via paypal, laser or credit card)

I “think” that, when you and a.n.other have signed up to Europe with Meteor, then if a person is on, say, Free Calls to Meteor in Ireland, then THEY (in Ireland) can call you (abroad) for FREE too ! Now that’s what I call great!
I’ll check that out. If it’s true- that’s a great bargain
